This year, l started researching more than ever. There has to be a way to overcome this disease. Okay, so acupuncture might be working for me right now but it’s just helping with the pain. The cyst is still there; l can still feel the odd twinge now and then during my period. l can’t still sleep on my left side for too long; if l do, l wake up with extreme discomfort from my left arm down to my left foot. Life is not meant to be lived in discomfort or endured; it’s meant to be lived and enjoyed, period. So towards the end of last year and early this year, l prayed and fasted for God’s guidance and direction.
Very recently, l came upon an article on another wordpress blog- HogHugs- about an enzyme supplement called Serrapeptase. This blogger is an inspiration. She suffered from endometriosis, cysts and infertility and decided to fight the disease using diet and supplements. Today, she has 2 kids and her cysts are significantly reduced. Her entire journey is documented in her blog. Please endeavour to look it up. Naturally, l was curious about this drug and decided to do more research on it. Actually, the blogger mentioned other supplements she used like Nattokinase, Liquid Spirulina, Indole-3- Carbinol, Acetyl L-Carnitine etc. I have however decided to study them one at a time so l started with Serrapeptase.
Serrapeptase is a naturally occuring enzyme found in the gut of silkworms. It works by digesting non living tissue, blood clots, cysts and inflammation in all forms. Primarily, it is an anti-inflammatory agent and it seeks out protein debris and waste matter left behind by various inflammatory reactions going on in the body. Hence, it is extremely beneficial for people suffering from any form of chronic inflammation. It has been used in Asia and Europe for decades and has been classified in the US as a dietary supplement. lt has been used to treat diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, arterial plaque, Crohn’s disease, fibrocystic breast disease, diabetes and of course, endometriosis. It has also been used to shrink fibroids and even cancerous tumours hence it’s nickname-The Miracle Enzyme. It is known by several other names like serralysin, serratia peptidase, serratio peptidase etc.
So far so good, l thought but how does it help with endometriosis? Through further research, l discovered many positive reviews about how this supplement has unblocked fallopian tubes, decreased endometriomas and most importantly, resulted in natural pregnancies! Serrapeptase also dissolves fibrin in the body. Fibrins are non globular protein involved in the clotting of blood during injury or trauma suffered by a person( in my case, operations to remove endo and cysts). It is essential because it is one of the first steps in the body’s attempt to recover. Scar tissue is made from fibrin and under normal conditions, it should be the final result during typical inflammatory response. However, when inflammation has become prolonged, fibrin can transform original soft tissue into a tough fibrous matrix and this matrix will still maintain biological markers of inflammation like swelling, redness and pain. Serrapeptase helps to dissolve fibrins and reduce swelling and pain. It also helps to digest adhesions in blocked fallopian tubes which have been damaged by endo and can help shrink endometriomas (cysts).
So those are the pros but as with any drugs, there has to be cons, right? Although there are a lot of research and articles on this supplement, there is still not much known about it’s long term use . Some evidence have shown that it could be harmful to lungs e.g pneumonitis(inflammation of lung tissue). Some reports also mentioned problems with blood thinning. As always with any new drugs, please consult your doctor. There is still more research to be done but my hubby and l are convinced enough to give it a try so we ordered some from Amazon on Monday. It’s called Natures Aid Serrapeptase 80000iu(enteric coating) 90 tablets. lt’s recommended dosage is 1-2 tablets a day on an empty stomach. I’ll start using it from the 1st of February and will be posting it’s effects from time to time.
Thanks for reading.
UPDATE- The Serrapeptase arrived on Thursday and l decided to start using it on Friday, the 31st instead. I’ll increase my dosage on Saturday taking it up to 1tablet 3 times a day which will make it 240000iu in total. I will also start juicing on Sunday ( more on that later)
